Dance Party to Benefit Local Autism Charity

Like most Kindergartners, Ethan Franklin loves drawing, computer games, and playing tag. But, what sets Ethan apart from other children is his ability to read at two years old, to identify more than 100 species of butterflies, and to provide directions to almost anywhere in Knoxville.

Ethan was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome in 2006. Asperger’s Syndrome is classified as an Autistic Spectrum Disorder that is characterized by social interaction impairment and repetitive of behavior and activities. Although difficulty in social interaction is an essential feature of all Autism Spectrum Disorders, every autistic child’s situation is unique. Ethan, for example, is in a mainstream kindergarten program and is very social and outgoing. He especially loves listening to music, playing “DJ”, and dancing with this friends and family. A few months ago, Ethan decided he wanted to have a dance party for all the friends and family. While his parents, Greg and Holly Franklin, contemplated the logistics and feasibility of his envisioned dance party, Ethan began inviting his classmates at Bonny Kate Elementary School, and then continued extending the invitation to nearly everyone he came across.

On March 28th, 2009, Ethan will finally have his dance party in conjunction with the upcoming Boogie Down Baby event. For the past year, Kiley Yarbrough has been organizing the family friendly dance parties for young children and parents. Boogie Down Baby will be donating 10% of proceeds to ASD Athletes, a charitable organization whose goal is to support people with Autistic Spectrum Disorders in their athletic endeavors.

Please come out and join Ethan at the former Green Hills Grille, 4429 Kingston Pike, 37919, as he hits the dance floor at Boogie Down Baby on March 28th, 2009, from 11am – 2pm! The event is open to the public. Admission is $10 per person; non-walking babies are admitted at no charge.
